The James O’Neill Building (Old Mill) was converted in 2023 into an innovative three-storey public library and exhibition space. Laid out over three levels on a new engineered timber structure hung from the eaves of the existing ruin, this development has transformed the library service offered to the people of Kinsale and the wider community. The project has won a range of architectural and conservation awards since opening. UCC’s main Boole Library on the historical campus quadrangle. Boole Library houses a number of technologyrich spaces including the Digital Scholarship Studio, the podcasting and one-touch recording Library Studios as well as other flexible and modern library spaces.
The Local Studies Library has an extensive collection of specialist reference works and important collections including the Cork Place Names Archive, the Cork and Irish Collections, the Cork Placenames Archive and the Irish Tourist Association Files. The collection of maps provides and insight into the cartographic heritage of the county.
