Call For Papers

The LAI/CILIP Ireland Joint Annual Conference 2025 will address the theme ‘Shining Lights’.

We would like to hear from both members and non-members about exciting developmental work happening in libraries and knowledge and information centres across the island of Ireland and beyond.

We are inviting submissions from ALL types of libraries, knowledge and information centres (including students) for presentations and lightning talks that cover any aspect of our theme, including, but not limited to:

“Future Stars: Showcasing excellent work from early career or junior Library Staff” This sub-theme highlights fresh perspectives and innovative ideas from those newer to the profession.

“Shining a Light: Showcasing Innovative Work” This sub-theme aims to spotlight broader innovative practices and projects within libraries. It can include the use of new technologies, the creation of new services, and the development of innovative library spaces.

“Beacons of Change: Libraries Leading Transformative Change” This theme explores the library’s role in leading and implementing positive transformations within their communities. It can include how libraries are actively initiating and driving social, economic or cultural change. New and transformative services, adopting new technologies or bridging the digital divide might be

“Illuminating the Path: Workforce Development and Succession Planning” This sub-theme will focus on strategies for professional growth, training, and succession planning within the library sector.

“Luminous Connections: Libraries and Community Engagement” This theme focuses the important role libraries play in their communities. It would explore ways libraries engage with their communities, build partnerships, and act as hubs for community events.

Notification of whether abstracts have been successful will be sent during the week beginning Monday 10th March 2025.

Those who have been successful must confirm their acceptance and attendance at the conference no later than 5pm Friday 21st March 2025.

An abstract can be submitted for Parallel Papers or Lightning Talks

Parallel Papers: 20-minute presentation followed by questions and answers.

Lightning Talk: 7-minute presentation followed by questions and answers.

Submit a 300 word (max) abstract describing what the presentation is about. Please indicate whether your proposal is for a parallel paper or lightning talk.

Papers should be:

  • A practically based presentation on a completed or current project that showcases the conference themes (please indicate which theme your paper will address)
  • Presenters may be required to participate in panel Q&A sessions at the end of the parallel session
  • A copy of the presenters slides may be published online after the conference
  • Parallel papers may be included in either plenary or parallel sessions.
  • Presenters are required to submit the final version of their presentation by Wednesday 3 April 2018
  • Presentations should be created in MS PowerPoint or as a PDF
